Results from Day 1A, Day 1B and Day 1C

The most anticipated poker tournament of the year has finally arrived; the World Series Of Poker Main Event started on Saturday, July 6^th, at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and will run until July 15^th to determine the final table, which will come back in November to establish the 2013 WSOP Champion.

In order to meet the high number of players that pay the $10,000 buy-in to take part in the Main Event, the schedule has three Day Ones and thee Day Twos (although Day 2A and Day 2B will take place on the same day, the players will be in different rooms), with the remaining players meeting on Day Three. The first three days have already concluded and the field included established pros, experienced veterans, recent bracelet winners, online grinders, enthusiastic amateurs and just about every other type of poker player you can think of. Day 1A

943 players signed up for the WSOP Main Event on the very first day of the tournament, which is quite a bit less than the 1,066 participants which turned up last year. However, the action didn’t take long to begin as the highly anticipated tournament started dealing its first hands. With the levels lasting two hours, starting from 50/100 blinds, and players getting very deep stacks of 30,000 chips, every participant is able to put the chosen strategy in motion.

The high-stakes pro got the lead late during the day as he got a huge pot when he made the nut-straight while holding Q-J on a T-9-8 board and his opponent had the second nuts with 7-6 for a smaller straight. He then continued to grind and increase his stack.

The most exciting hand of the day took place during the last level as five players went all-in preflop. The main pot was worth around 100,000 and was won by Mac Sohrabi with pocket Queens while Yurel Eminogla got the side pot with pocket Jacks and moved up the list.

Day 1B

1,942 players took to the tables on Day 1B and 1,296 of them survived to come back on Day 2. Clement Tripodi was holding the top spot on the list when the dust got the chance to settle with 207,500 chips. In second place from Day 1B, Jevon Lam with 189,250 chips. Notable players in the top 10 include online poker superstar Dan “Jungleman” Cates, who finished third with 188,425.

Cates got his large stack after winning a big hand against Danny Illingworth as both players were holding trip fives but the better kicker meant that he would get the pot. Chris Moneymaker, the first player to qualify for the WSOP Main Event online and go on to win it 10 years ago, also took a seat at the table and so did poker legend Doyle Brunson, looking to add his third diamond bracelet to the collection. Before the action started, Ty Stewart presented a bronze bust of Brunson which is the first in a line of players from the Poker Hall of Fame. Both Moneymaker and Brunson survived the first day.

Day 1C

3,467 entrants put up the $10,000 buy-in on the third and final starting flight for the WSOP Main Event, putting the total for the tournament at 6,352 players. This means a prize pool of $59,708,800 from which the winner will get $8,359,531 to go along with the diamond bracelet worth a cool half a million dollars.

The leader from Day 1C is Mark Kroon with 246,300, giving him the lead overall across the first three days.
